Barrie Owen Obituary

Born in Yulan, Sullivan County, New York. Son of the late Russell R. Owen and the late Jemima B. Owen (nee Strachan). Died at the age of 90. He is preceded in death by his dear friend Janet Via Sellers. He is survived by many of the friends he had met throughout his life,

He is a Retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel having served in the United States Air Force, the New York Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserve. He served the New York State Police with the rank of Trooper. A very active Mason for more than 65 years, he was a Past Master of Harry S. Johnson Lodge No.763, F. & A. M.; Secretary of College Hill-Harry S. Johnson Lodge No. 641, F. & A. M.; Past District Deputy Grand Master; Past High Priest of Cumminsville Chapter No. 158, Royal Arch Masons; Past District Education Officer and Past District Deputy Grand High Priest of the Fourth Capitular District of Ohio; Past President of the First Masonic District Officers Association; Past President of the Society of Past Master of Cincinnati and Vicinity; Past Patron, River Valley Chapter No. 33, Order of the Eastern Star of the State of New York; Plural Member of Hoffner Chapter No. 286, Order of the Eastern Star, State of Ohio; Past Sovereign Master of Seven Hills Council No. 118, Allied Masonic Degrees; Member of Cincinnati Council No. 1, Royal & Select Masons of Ohio; Hanselmann Commandery No. 16, Knights Templar of Ohio; North Bend Mark Lodge No. 1; State Secretaries Association, Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio; Tall Cedars of Lebanon; Ohio Chapter of Research, Royal Arch Masons of Ohio; Apollo Tabernacle No. 2, Royal Arch Masons of Ohio; Valley of Cincinnati, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; a member of the Association of Former New York State Troopers; the Caledonian Society of Cincinnati; the Welsh Society of Greater Cincinnati, and Sylvan Liebla Post No. 1363 of the American Legion, Town of Highland, New York. An employee/officer of CNA Insurance, AIG Insurance and Union Central Life Insurance, he was a Chartered Life Underwriter. Owned Owen Benefit Planning, an insurance brokerage company and was the major stockholder of Orb Web Design and Consulting, an internet access provider and designer of web sites. He rounded out his service to federal, state and local levels of government by serving as a member of the Forest Park City Council from 2003 through 2005. He served as a member and as Chairman of the Forest Park Planning Commission for several terms. He was a long time member of the Forest Park Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and of the Forest Chapel United Methodist Church.

Viewing and Masonic Services will be from 5pm until the time of the Funeral Service at 6pm at the Paul R. Young Funeral Home in Mt Healthy on Monday, December 6, 2021. Interment will be on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 3pm at the Arlington Memorial Gardens, Mt. Healthy, Ohio.
