John Calvin Scheffel, Jr.

John Calvin Scheffel, Jr. died June 17 in Cincinnati.  He was born on November 7, 1932.  John was pre-deceased by his beloved wife Nellie and his brother Dennis.  He is survived by his son, John III (Linda) of Katonah, New York and his grandchildren Andrew of White Plains, New York and Victoria of Washington, D.C.

John was raised in Mt. Healthy.  He graduated from Mt. Healthy high school and Ashland College;  he excelled in basketball and baseball.  He served in both the US Army and the US Navy Reserve, where he served applying early computer technology.  

After college and the Army, John took up sales, working for among others, Union Central Life Insurance, and Levi Strauss & Co. as a manufacturer’s representative.  He later served as President of Hickok, a men’s leather goods manufacturer and owned a small business selling audio equipment in Cincinnati.  John and his family lived in Springfield (Ohio), Indianapolis, Dayton, Arlington (Texas) as well as Cincinnati.

John loved dogs, the Cincinnati Reds, and his grandchildren.  He lived among friends and neighbors in Colerain township for the last 40 years of his life.  He was a long time member of the White Oak Christian Church.  Thanks to all his caregivers including the staff of Covenant Village.  Interment will be private; a memorial service will be held at a later time.
