William Frederick Goold

Bill was born in Ottawa, Ontario to Dorothy (nee Alexander) and Frederick Goold on March 12, 1930. He was raised in Canada and grew up excelling in the national pastime of his homeland: hockey. He moved to Cincinnati in 1952 to play professional hockey for the Cincinnati Mohawks in the International Hockey League. Bill also was the team's coach and captain, winning the league championship and post season tournament for the six straight years that he was on the team. It was there, playing hockey at the Cincinnati Gardens, where he met the love of his life, Joyce Girard. 

Bill and Joyce married in 1955 and moved to Mt. Healthy to raise their three children. After his hockey career ended, he spent decades as a faithful employee of Sears, Roebuck and Company, retiring as a Manager 25 years ago. 

He is the beloved husband of Joyce (nee Girard) Goold; devoted father of Greg (Cathy) Goold, Jeff (Dolores) Goold and LTC Amy Goold, MD; cherished grandfather of Emma (Tim) Fryer and Kyle Goold; also survived by dear brothers Cecil (Gloria) Goold, John (the late Beverly) Goold and Gary (Brenda) Holtz. He was preceded in death by his parents Dorothy and Fred Goold, his sister Kay (Bill) Denison, and his brother Eddie (Jackie) Goold. 

A memorial visitation for Bill will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023 from 4 to 6 pm at Paul R. Young Funeral Home in Mt. Healthy. Additionally, a remembrance of Bill’s life will be held in Arnprior, Ontario, Canada in June of 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's name to the charity of your choice since Bill was a generous contributor to many worthy causes.
